The Forest & Environment Department of Meghalaya has officially launched the 2026 Community Afforestation Drive. Working hand-in-hand with traditional village councils (Dorbar Shnong) and local Youth Clubs, the department aims to restore degraded forest patches and enhance indigenous canopy cover.

Priority plant species include Oak, Pine, Teak, and native bamboo varieties suited for high-altitude rainfall regions.
