Section 3 of the Meghalaya Forest (Removal of Timber) (Regulation) Act, 1981 mandates that no person shall transport timber outside the State, and no Timber Depot shall be established without a valid license granted by the competent authority (DFO Territorial). These licenses are granted for a period of exactly one year and are subject to annual renewal.
Requirements for Furniture Units
Mandatory NOC
No person or entity shall set up a Furniture Unit without first obtaining a formal No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Forest Department.
Application Process
A complete application must be submitted to the concerned DFO (Territorial). This application must include valid land documents and a signed undertaking committing to only source sawn timber from legally licensed saw mills.
