The highly endangered Clouded Leopard is the State Animal of Meghalaya.
Wild Felines & Canines
Other carnivores found here are Leopard, Leopard cat, Jungle cat, Golden Cat, Marbled Cat, Dhole (Indian Wild Dog) and Indian Wolf.
Herbivores & Omnivores
Elephant
A magnificent herbivore commonly found roaming the dense forests of Meghalaya.
Gaur (Indian Bison)
The largest extant bovine, a powerful and iconic herbivore of the region.
Deer Species
Sambar, Serow, and Barking Deer are frequently spotted grazing throughout the sanctuaries.
Jackals & Foxes
Common omnivores including the Jackal and Common Fox are highly adaptable species in the State.
Vulnerable
Bear Species
Both the Sloth Bear and the elusive Himalayan Black Bear forage in the dense foliage.
Small Omnivores
The forests are also home to Large Indian Civets, Yellow-throated Marten, Mongoose, and Hog Badger.

Globally Endangered
Hoolock Gibbon
The only Ape found in India, along with the Capped Langur, both globally endangered species found in the State.

Other primates found are Slow Loris, Pig Tailed Macaque, Stump Tailed Macaque and Rhesus Macaque.
Tyrso Village Roosting
Amur Falcon
Amur Falcon is a small raptor that breeds in South-eastern Siberia and Northern China and migrates west across the Arabian Sea to Southern Africa—making a 20,000 km round trip.
They make a stop at Tyrso village in Ri Bhoi district during October for roosting, usually staying for a month. A unique Amur Falcon festival is organized by the Tyrso Valley NGO to give space for the birds and create awareness.
