Working Plan Division
Activities
- Prescription, Revision etc of the Working Plan for all Reserved Forests and Protected Forests under the control of the State Government as per the National Working Plan Code, 2014.
- Preparation and prescription of a Working Schemes of the private/ community forests of the State under the control of Autonomous District Councils of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills.
- To survey and demarcate of RFs and PFs boundaries from time to time including compartment demarcation for better management by concerned Territorial Division.
- To carry out all types of Forest survey and inventory works in the state as and when entrusted for the better management of forest and its resources.

Preparation of Working Plan
Working Plans were prepared for the Reserve Forest and Protected Forest of the following regions of the state:
Jaintia Hills Division
Approved for a period of 10 years (2013-14 up to 2022-23) by the Ministry of Environment and Forests & Climate Change (MoEF&CC).
* During Mid-term revision (July 2018), the area of Narpuh Block-II RF will be reduced consequent upon notification of 59.90 sq.km as Narpuh Wildlife Sanctuary.
Khasi Hills Division (In & Around Shillong)
Working plan prepared for two Reserve Forests and Four Protected Forests.
Khasi Hills Division (Nongkhyllem & Umsaw)
Approved for a period of 10 years (2013-14 up to 2022-23) by the MoEF&CC, North East Regional Office on 26th August 2013.
Garo Hills Division
Approved for a period of 10 years (2013-14 up to 2022-23) on 3rd October 2013. Mid-term review was initiated in July 2018 accommodating the bifurcation of Garo Hills Division.
Preparation and Implementation of Working Schemes
As per the Hon'ble Supreme Court order in Writ Petition (Civil) 202/95 dated 15.01.1998, Working Schemes are prepared for scientific management of forests. Two Working Schemes for private/community forests under JHADC jurisdiction were prepared and approved for periods 2006-11 and 2012-17.
Currently, the Working Scheme for 32 private/community forests under Thadlaskein C&RD Block (JHADC) for an area of 521.87 ha is approved for the period 2017-2022. More schemes are contemplated for Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills ADCs.
Comprehensive Forestry Inventory of Khasi Hills Region (2015-16)
Scheme implemented using RS-GIS based methodology of Stratified Random Sampling in East Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, and Ri Bhoi districts under CAMPA. A total of 2997 sample plots were surveyed.
Inventory Output Summary (Dominant Species)
East Khasi Hills
Pinus kesiya is most dominant, followed by Schima wallichii, Castonopsis spp., Betula alnoides and Macaranga denticulata.
West Khasi Hills
Pinus kesiya is most dominant, followed by Schima wallichii, Castonopsis spp., Macaranga denticulata and Betula alnoides.
South West Khasi Hills
Schima wallichii is most dominant, followed by Castonopsis spp., Macaranga denticulata, Pinus kesiya and Betula alnoides.
Ri Bhoi
Schima wallichii is most dominant, followed by Pinus kesiya, Castonopsis spp., Macaranga denticulata and Betula alnoides.
